Email Digest

The email digest sends a summary of your feed items to your email inbox on a daily or weekly schedule.

How to Set Up

Step 1: Configure SMTP (Admin Only)

Before any user can receive email digests, an admin must configure the email server in Admin Panel → Settings → Email:

| Setting | Example | Description |

|---|---|---|

| smtp_host | smtp.sendgrid.net | Your email provider's SMTP server |

| smtp_port | 587 | Port (587 for TLS, 465 for SSL) |

| smtp_user | apikey | SMTP username |

| smtp_password | SG.xxxxx... | SMTP password or API key |

| from_email | digests@rssflux.com | Sender address shown in recipients' inboxes |

Free options: SendGrid (100 emails/day free), Mailgun (5,000 emails/month free).

Step 2: Create an Email Digest Bot

1. Go to Bots & Alerts → Add Bot

2. Select Email Digest as the platform

3. Enter your email address

4. Choose frequency: Daily or Weekly

5. Select which feed to monitor

6. Save

Step 3: Confirm Delivery

  • Digests are sent automatically on the chosen schedule
  • Check the Recent Delivery Attempts section on the Bots page to confirm delivery
  • If delivery fails, the error will be shown in the delivery logs

What the Digest Contains

Each digest email includes:

  • Up to 30 most recent items from your feed
  • Item title (linked to the original article)
  • Publication date
  • Short description (first 200 characters)
  • Optional thumbnail image (when available)

Troubleshooting

| Issue | Cause | Fix |

|---|---|---|

| Digest not sent | SMTP not configured | Ask an admin to configure SMTP in Admin Panel |

| "SMTP not configured" in logs | No SMTP settings | Set smtp_host and from_email at minimum |

| Email goes to spam | Sender reputation | Use a reputable SMTP provider (SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES) |

| Empty digest | No new items since last send | New items must be added to the feed first |
